We try to keep things transparent, it’s no secret that care-costs can be high, depending on your circumstances and whether or not you are self funding – this can be life changing. We all have our experiences of this, particularly in elderly care – we all grow old and eventually require some support – as a manager, I am guided by my experience of my Grandma, who cared for my Grandpa at home for 10 years with dementia – never to ask for help. When he deteriorated following a fall, he had to spend his final months in care, and was asked to pay in full, for sub-standard care. This experience was something that encouraged me to work at the Royal Star and Garter for 5 years – a charity for elderly veterans, on their dementia unit.
Likewise, when supporting young people and adults with complex care needs in the community across 15 years, the costs can be extortionate – and have seen first hand how venture capitalists have entered the market for profit – piling on staff or hours to maximise profit, with no more than a token effort towards improving someones life, its often an after thought.
We are doing things differently at Buddies.
We are accredited members of the social enterprise movement and as such we reinvest 51% of our profit back into the business – the business must always adhere to its purpose, which is improving lives, and improving the quality of care provided to people living in the community and in general.
In practical terms, you will find us to be authentically person centred, we will never put money first, the opposite in fact- we will do more, rather than less – and we want to create a trusting friendly atmosphere where you can expect a degree of generosity throughout our journey together. Something as basic as picking you up a newspaper and a coffee, or a free ticket to an event you’ve been talking about, or some stationary for a course, as a young person or adult. we will have a pot of money for that.
We will restore your confidence in services and remove the sting from the process so far as practical.
We will be open about the costs, flexible and open to discussion – (although we have T and C’S we must follow) you’ll always be able to engage with a person you know, who will listen, who cares and will respond honestly.
You will see below a table which provides a general range of costs – I have used my particular experience, and expertise to inform the upper range. It gives you an idea on what to expect. I work as an independent professional within the company.
Hopefully this is helpful, whether you are a professional procuring services, or an individual trying to figure out how to proceed with support – we will do our best to help.
Best for Now.
